چکیده

Abstrae%: A framework for the description of syntactic structures of free word order languages is proposed, based on combination of intuitions underlying immediate constituent description, dependency description and communicative dynamism. The combined approach is compared to its sources and shown superior in descriptive power, esp. in the area of free intermixing of (any number of) adjuncts with complements and in coordination. Close resemblance to two other recent approaches is pointed out.

Formalization of Word-Order Shifts by Restarting Automata

The phenomenon of word order freedom plays an important role in syntactic analysis of many natural languages. This paper introduces a notion of a word order shift, an operation reflecting the degree of word order freedom of natural languages. The word order shift is an operation based upon word order changes preserving syntactic correctness, individual word forms, their morphological characteri...

مدل ترجمه عبارت-مرزی با استفاده از برچسب‌های کم‌عمق نحوی

Phrase-boundary model for statistical machine translation labels the rules with classes of boundary words on the target side phrases of training corpus. In this paper, we extend the phrase-boundary model using shallow syntactic labels including POS tags and chunk labels. With the priority of chunk labels, the proposed model names non-terminals with shallow syntactic labels on the boundaries of ...

Dependency-Based Hybrid Model of Syntactic Analysis for the Languages with a Rather Free Word Order

Although phrase structure grammars have turned out to be a more popular approach for analysis and representation of the natural language syntactic structures, dependency grammars are often considered as being more appropriate for free word order languages. While building a parser for Latvian, a language with a rather free word order, we found (similarly to TIGER project for German and Talbanken...

Developing a Minimalist Parser for Free Word Order Languages with Discontinuous Constituency

We propose a parser based on ideas from the Minimalist Programme. The parser supports free word order languages and simulates a human listener who necessarily begins sentence analysis before all the words in the sentence have become available. We first sketch the problems that free word order languages pose. Next we discuss an existing framework for minimalist parsing, and show how it is diffic...

Syntactic complexity and ambiguity resolution in a free word order language: behavioral and electrophysiological evidences from Basque.

In natural languages some syntactic structures are simpler than others. Syntactically complex structures require further computation that is not required by syntactically simple structures. In particular, canonical, basic word order represents the simplest sentence-structure. Natural languages have different canonical word orders, and they vary in the degree of word order freedom they allow. In...
